Image of "Science and Religion" quilt by Pat Solon

Artist Statement: The overlay of curves and color atop what is rectilinear and only black and white may raise questions about which is science and which is religion (or mathematics and art, engineering and social sciences, male and female). But consider that there may be no dichotomy at all. While creating this work, especially the quilting layer, thoughts from a book I read over ten years ago entered my thinking: Edward O. Wilson's Consilience: The Unity of Knowledge.

Materials & Techniques: Solid black and solid white cotton fabric; cotton, rayon, polyester, and blend threads. Machine pieced and machine quilted.

Dimensions: 21.5"W x 24.5"H
