Image of quilt titled "Mountain Landscapes" by Bonny Brewer

Artist Statement: The novel Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier was the inspiration for the mood of this quilt. Wounded and demoralized by the ravages of the Civil War, Inman, the hero of the book, turns his back on the war and walks home to his sweetheart in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. Frazier chronicles Inman's journey, describing the harshness and beauty of these mountains--ridge after ridge, stretching as far as the eye can see. In each of the nine panels of the quilt is a ray of hope that spurs Inman on. The flying geese in the border mark his way.

Chinese Chrysanthemum Series: Tan Shan Chinese

Materials & Techniques: Commercial cottons, machine pieced and quilted.
