Image of "Beauty of Decay: Lichens" quilt by Meg Blau, juror

Artist Statement: Lichens like to eat that which is not "food": concrete, rocks, barns; and their eating slowly destroys that to which they are attached. Yet, even in their destroying, they create oxygen and keep the atmospheric balance of breathable gases, so the rest of creation may survive.

Dimensions: 33" W x 36" H

Materials and Techniques: Cottons, silk/polyester batting. Raw edge appliqué, hand quilting.

Photographer: Ken Wagner.
