Image of “Salsa and the Green Flash” art cloth by Katherine Sylvan

Artist Statement: No kidding — this really happened — we were on Kauai and having salsa and chips on a restaurant patio at sunset when we saw the green flash. Upon returning home, in order to convey the complexity of the flash and merging sunset colors, I completed many multiple layers of dyeing and silk screening on this polka dot piece..

Materials & Techniques: Jacquard silk; Procion MX Dyes; Vat Dyes; textile paint. Multiple layers of dyepainting, discharging (selective dye removal), overdyeing, silk screening, hand painting.

Dimensions: 24"W x 72"H
