Artist Statement: Although the pose is adapted from a posthumous allegorical portrait of Elizabeth I with time and death, the subject of this quilt is very much the living Elizabeth and her life choices. Perhaps the first woman forced to choose between defining herself personally or professionally, she found that political decisions had serious private consequences, closing as many doors as they opened.
