Artist Statement: Creating improvisational pieces in cloth is like creating improvisational jazz music. They both share a common methodology and result. Each medium begins with a basic ‘phrase’, whether a musical melody or a visual block. Then, a harmonic element is created to accompany the original phrase. These elements are extrapolated over and over, resulting in a coherent whole composed of disparate parts.
