Artist Statement: I volunteer at the local Botanical Conservatory. When I started working there, I was in such awe at the absolute beauty of flowers and plants from around the world, that I stopped working on the other art quilts being created in my studio, and began a short series of floral pieces. This is the third quilt in that series, inspired by the orchids I get to see every week. I dedicate the piece to the city of Moyobamba in northern Peru, also known as the "City of Orchids" because of the 3,500 species that grow in its vicinity.
Dimensions: 36" wide x 35" high
Materials and Techniques: I begin each art quilt with one piece of white cotton fabric, and go from there. Whole-cloth cotton fabric, cotton batting, fabric paint, paint markers, hand painted, hand quilted with embroidery thread.
