Artist Statement: My first few attempts at fabric dyeing gave me an extraordinary range of what I considered "garden" colors. I experimented even further to add texture to the work by dyeing cotton velveteen using the same recipe I had used for the flat cotton fabrics. I wanted to create something that, like gardens, had some order and structure but also some free form to it, so the log cabin block, not quite squared, seemed appropriate. I also wanted to experiment with using metallic threads as well as hand-dyed ribbon in the bobbin. All of these "wants" came together and thus was born "Geese Fly Over My Garden."
