Artist Statement: My husband is a map nut, so it was probably inevitable that maps would seep into my art sometime, but it seems especially appropriate now as our children begin to leave the nest. In this work I am combining both metaphoric maps (where am I? where do I go from here?) with actual, physical place maps. Here is a view of a familiar object in an unfamiliar way: a topographic map of the summit of Mount Rainier. Two views of it, both positive and negative, float on a bigger map. We may think we have pinpointed our place in our journeys, but we can't know the Big Picture or where the journey will eventually take us. The best we can do is enjoy the view..
