Artist Statement: This small quilt is based on a photo I took at Manzanar in 2005. I was struck how this lone tree could survive under desert conditions. In the desert, the cool days of spring yield to the brutal heat of summer.

Materials & Techniques: Hand-dyed fabric. Micro-quilting, hand appliqué and piecing, beading.
