Artist Statement: This quilt is different from those I normally make. The name of the chrysanthemum, Dark Red Threads with Gold Beads, evoked many images some abstract and some traditional. In the end I tried to create a quilt that was reminiscent of an Asian watercolor painting. The silk background reminded me of handmade paper, and it became the foundation of the "painting." The flowers wanted to curl off of the quilt, so I let them.

Materials & Techniques: Commercial cotton and silks, ribbons, beads. Piecing, appliqué, both machine and hand.
