Artist Statement: Fish skin cells look like beautiful abstract art when they are highly magnified with a microscope. This piece is inspired by a scanning electron microscope image I photographed during my previous career as a Marine Biologist. Materials & Techniques: A quilt sandwich of cotton fabric and wool batting was free motion quilted, then painted. For the "mucus cell" areas, holes were cut through the quilt, faced, and replaced with two layers of painted lutradur patterned with a fine tipped heat tool.
