Carolyn Burton - Hope AlwaysArtist Statement: It is my wish to express the belief that there is always hope. The jumbled dark pieces at the bottom of the quilt represent the turmoil on our planet. The sun-like image is God, Divine Spirit, Buddha, Allah or whatever the viewer wishes the positive, comforting power to be. It's rays kiss the earth, bringing warmth, light and hope. Materials & Techniques: Commercial cotton, silk shantung, organza, voile, antique kimono pieces, metallic thread. The 'sun' is paper-pieced and pieced in. The 'earth' is pieced and appliqued onto the background. The rays are appliqued and outlined with braid technique couching, using four strands of metallic thread and fine metallic in the machine Dimensions: 41 3/4" x 37 1/4" Photographer: Carolyn Burton |
