Roncador Swirls by Carla StehrArtist Statement: The Roncador River in Brazil has dark brown water colored by tannins. A waterfall creates foamy swirls that float on the river’s surface. Sun shining through the shallow, dark water and reflecting off the white sand river bottom makes the water appear to be beautiful shades of purple and burgundy. Materials & Techniques: Cotton fabric painted with thickened dye and soy wax resist. Free motion machine and hand quilting. Diluted fabric paint and water-soluble colored pencil added after stitching. Dimensions: 19 x 35 x 0 Photographer: Carla Stehr |
