Greenland @ 35000 Feet by Janet DarcherArtist Statement: I love to have a window seat especially on a long journey. In the late winter of 2019, I flew over Greenland for the first time in daylight and saw the melting ice. As beautiful as the patterning appeared, I was struck by the expanse of blue water where white ice should have been. The piece was inspired by a photo I took from my window seat. The blue reminded me of a piece of Indigo dyed fabric I had just made. Materials & Techniques: Indigo dyed fabric for the background with applique of commercial cotton fabric. Machined appliqued and quilted (DSM). Dimensions: 21 x 17 Photographer: |
