Ellin Larimer - Red Mum in Cloud ShapeArtist Statement: I am interested in exploring the relationships of curved lines and shapes quilts and combining colors in an exciting manner while direct piecing. I dye my own cotton fabrics to achieve the results I want; it is a continuous experiment and surprise. I like the challenge of using repetition in my designs in different ways. My work is machine pieced and machine quilted. It has been especially fun and challenging to make a quilt for the "Gifts to Gold Mountain" Exhibit. Red Mum in Cloud Shape reached out to me. The elongated motif that I have currently exploring was perfect for a cloud shape. I also felt that the motif, as I am working with it, really wanted to be developed as mums. I took the liberty of modifying the challenge by making multiple red mums in cloud shape. Chinese Chrysanthemum Series: Qian Yun Hong Jue Materials & Techniques: Pima cotton, hand-dyeds by artist. Direct piecing, cut through, machine piecing and quilting. |
