Kristin Dukay - Plastic SurgeonArtist Statement: This is a light-hearted, updated version of a Northwest Coast button blanket. The acrylic felt is printed with a pattern for a child's doctor's costume, complete with stethoscope and tongue depressors. Vinyl lacing "scars" are stapled across the button blanket. Red, plastic-capped metal fasteners glisten likes drops of blood on the four red felt rectangles. In the center of the blanket, the negative spaces on a piece of wood recall an x-ray and perforated metal disks act as diagnostic machine controls. Rubber tubing hangs ready for emergency situations and can also be used to fasten the blanket in place. Materials: Vinyl shower curtain, acrylic felt, vinyl lacing, metal staples, buttons, plastic-capped metal fasteners, wood, metal cookie press patterns, rubber tile spacers, rubber tubing, gauze, elastic tread, polyester thread. Construction Methods: The vinyl and felt are sewn together then vinyl lacing is stapled through all layers. Plastic-capped metal fasteners pierce the red felt rectangles. Other embellishments are hand sewn in place. 71" wide X 47" high |
