Artist Statement: “Mestiza Goes Walking” might be called a self-portrait. In fact, I often joke that every one of my quilts could be titled “Mestiza Goes Walking” since all my work is based on what I (Mestiza, or mixed-race) have seen on my journey through this life. As well as just casually walking around everywhere, I’m also a hiker and backpacker who has hiked over 500 miles on the Camino de Santiago. This quilt is part of my “Happy 2B Here” series.
