Mary Lewis - Moonlight MagicArtist Statement: A picture of my beautiful daughter-in-law (of Cambodian, not Hawaiian descent), a fresh picked plumeria flower, and a moonlit Hawaiian night came together to remind me of a Gauguin painting. I used my preferred technique of abstracting a design to the least amount of colors and shapes while retaining the essence of the subject to produce a piece of work that captures our own family memory of a moment in paradise. Materials & Techniques: Commercial solid cottons, personally ice dyed cotton, cotton and polyester batting. The portrait was appliqued with a satin stitch and the piece was quilted with free-motion quilting. Dimensions: 20" X 22" Photographer: Mary Lewis |
