Artist Statement: Poetry and ancient stories create images in my mind of humans viewing our universe. I’ve portrayed the stories of someone gazing out into a remembered landscape and celestial women being chased then transformed into a star constellation, using hand-dyes, paint sticks, embellishments and stitching. Lately, I’ve been inspired by world-wide cultural myths of the Pleiades constellation, creating the form of garments traditional women used to encapsulate their beliefs.

Materials & Techniques: Natural indigo dyed cotton: various shibori techniques. Stencilled paint-stick images. Pleating, machine quilting, hand stitches. Bead and shell embellishment.
