Carla Stehr - MicroscapeArtist Statement: Beautiful microscopic patterns are everywhere, even on the surface of tiny sea creatures. This is based on the surface pattern of a small shrimp-like animal called an amphipod. It is inspired by an image I photographed with a scanning electron microscope during my career as a Marine Biologist. Materials & Techniques: White cotton fabric and wool batting were free motion quilted and embroidered with French knots with white cotton thread. Several layers of fabric paint, markers and water soluble colored pencils were applied after stitching. Dimensions: 27" W x 32" H Photographer: Carla Stehr |
