Greenland at 35000 Feet by Janet Darcher![]() Artist Statement: I flew over Greenland for the first time in daylight in the late winter of 2019, and saw the melting ice. As beautiful as the patterning appeared, I was struck by the expanse of blue water where white ice should have been. It reminded me of a piece of Indigo I had dyed a few weeks earlier. I took a picture and when I got home I made Greenland at 35000 Feet. Materials & Techniques: Indigo dyed fabric for the background with applique of commercial cotton fabric. Machined appliqued and quilted. Dimensions: 17 x 21 x 0 Photographer: Margaret Darcher |
