Getting Out of My Bubble by Stephanie OstmannArtist Statement: I've been playing with bubble wrap - incorporating it into fabric collages. In this piece a fragment of bubble wrap is sandwiched between pieces of sheer organza fabric, then quilted with various colored threads, free-hand cut, and stitched onto a collage of other materials. This little project definitely got me out of my usual bubble of working. I like giving new life to materials that are the cast-offs of our daily lives. Materials & Techniques: Materials: bubble wrap, synthetic organza, silk organza, monoprinted and commercial cottons, metallic fabric. Fabric elements were raw-edge appliqued onto a background fabric, then quilted. Quilted and free-hand cut bubble wrap was stitched into place, leaving loose edges. The collage is mounted onto synthetic suede fabric and framed without glass. Dimensions: 16 x 12 x 3 Photographer: Stephanie Ostmann |
