Each of us has become more aware of redefining our material world. It might be taking our own bags to the grocery store, combining trips to use less gas, going to the local farmers’ market, or using our recycle bins more frequently. In the same way, artists of the work in “Redefining A Material World” look at materials and ideas with new approaches. It may be picking up a discarded can on a walk and incorporating it in a piece. Fibers may be melded into the fabric to create a picture. Fabric is redesigned by dyeing, discharging, embellishing, rearranging, and layering. Look for these and more as you enjoy the work of CQA artists, and consider ways that you might redefine your material world.
